A Month of Celebrations

July is a month full of celebrations! For those in Canada, where Communities for Life is based, we celebrate Canada Day on July 1st. We tip our hats to our friends and supporters in the U.S. as they celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. And to our family and friends in Peru, we say “Salud!” as they celebrate Peru’s National Independence Day (also known as 28 de Julio and Dia de la Independencia) on July 28th.

Peru’s national holiday celebration officially falls on two days - July 28th and 29th. The national holiday commemorates Peru’s independence from the Spanish Empire in 1821, led by José de San Martín. Although most celebrations occur on July 28th, Peruvians set aside July 29th to honour the Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru.

Sustainable Futures

Along with the national celebrations, we also celebrate the expansion of our sustainable offerings to individuals in Manchay, Peru. In addition to our gardening and baking classes, we have added practical courses to teach young people important trades. With these new skills, young men and women will have the opportunity to find well-paying jobs to support their families. Learn more about the new trades courses in Manchay.

Remember to save the date for September 12th, 2022, to join our Communities for Life inaugural golf tournament to support the work in Manchay. Last year’s tournament raised enough money for us to build the additional levels to the Life Resource Center in Manchay and offer the two new trades courses. Register today for the tournament.
