July Updates

It has been another exciting month at Communities for Life!

Every day, our students are developing practical skills, building confidence, and creating new opportunities for themselves and their families. Learning trades, growing food, mastering baking techniques, and strengthening language skills has been inspiring to see across our programs.

Here's a look at what we've been up to this month.

Fresh From the Bakery

Our bakery program continues to be one of the most popular courses at the Communities for Life Resource Center, and this semester is no exception.

Across three different groups, students have been learning foundational baking techniques while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the kitchen. This month, they put those lessons into practice by creating delicious homemade doughnuts.

Our advanced baking students have also been expanding their skills by learning to craft delicate chocolate truffles. These hands-on projects build precision, creativity, and confidence while preparing students for future employment opportunities.

Building Confidence Through Language

We're excited to welcome back our ESL class!

At Communities for Life, we believe language is a bridge to connection, confidence, and opportunity. It's wonderful to see students investing in themselves as they continue learning English and opening doors to new possibilities for their futures.

Growing More Than Gardens

A new gardening cycle has begun in Manchay, Peru.

Students are starting with the fundamentals by learning to till the ground, fertilize the soil, and prepare the soil for planting. Through the Gardening Training Center, participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to grow crops in an arid climate, supporting food security, sustainability, and self-sufficiency within their community.

Learning by Doing

Some of the most valuable lessons happen through hands-on experience.

Our barbering students are now practicing their skills on members of the local community, gaining real-world experience while building confidence in their craft.

Our electrical students continue applying what they've learned by installing switches during the construction of a new home in Manchay. Every project strengthens their technical abilities while allowing them to give back by helping build homes for local families.

Meanwhile, our cabinet-making students are learning how to install hinges, bringing them one step closer to completing fully finished cabinetry projects. Watching their craftsmanship improve with each lesson has been incredible.

Creativity in Action

Our balloon-making class recently learned how to create eye-catching neon balloon arrangements for a local birthday celebration.

These colourful creations are more than decorations. They represent valuable entrepreneurial skills that can help students build businesses and generate income within their communities.
